For Lucero, graphic design is the ability to create connections with one another and to bring others together in a creative way that is fun and functional for everyone. She also enjoys working with color and experimenting with typography to incorporate into her designs when she can. Outside of design, Lucero loves doing other mini hobbies such as doodling, roller-skating, reading and trying out different places to eat! These experiences all fuel her inspiration for creating designs that relate to and help others.
Initially, when taking the time to ponder what sparked me to create and design, I realized that creating connections with others and each other really seemed to resonate with me. However, after further research it came down to one single aspect: empathy.
“It’s understanding how others feel and being compassionate toward them. It happens when two parts of the brain work together — the emotional center perceives the feelings of others, and the cognitive center tries to understand why they feel that way and how we can be helpful to them” (Claire Cain Miller). Emotions of helpfulness, competence, and functionality drive my designs and in the background of it all is the wish to convey and motivate others to be compassionate to one another.
My spark is to create a world where we are giving back to one another.
